Sometimes the sun is dulled behind the clouds, but its warmth and strength remains constant and unchanging and it always re-emerges with a brilliance that seems renewed. So, too, is it with our souls. When we experience the passing of loved ones, we seem to lose part of our selves, dulled behind the pain of grief, but the warmth of their love remains strong and constant and as a result, our souls re-emerge with a brilliance that is God-given and renewed. Great love has the bittersweet consequence of great loss, but it also has the immeasurable greatness of innermost joy. The impact on minds, hearts and souls is wondrous. ‘Being’ does not end in death, but is carried on within all of us. (WR)
